Making decisions. I often see in clients and friends how not being able to make a decision causes a huge amount of stress, feeling unsettled and in a state of flux. So often I’ve seen in coaching that almost any decision a client makes, or direction they decide to follow, is going to be better than the discomfort caused by the procrastination and not knowing what to do.
It’s back to the rollercoaster I mentioned a few posts ago as I was experiencing it myself.
While we didn’t know as a family where we were going to move to, or even if we were definitely going to move, life felt very unsettling.
Last week however one piece of the jigsaw slotted in to place and I confirmed new school places from September for the kids. What I noticed was that this brought huge relief and not just because one major thing was sorted. It also meant that we are definitely moving, we now know which part of the country we are going to, as well as a timescale in which to do it (I have no intention of doing a school commute!). This means that a whole heap of questions and to-ing and fro-ing in our minds has been immediately sorted and crossed off. Hence our thoughts, energy and emotions can now fully focus on the future and dreaming of how it will be in the new location. There is still a rollercoaster too – after all we still have to sell a house, find a house, buy a house, fit into a new community, make friends, build my coaching business in the new place, new commute for Husband, new school for kids, blah blah blah. But not having the what ifs and constantly comparing leaving to going makes that all a lot easier and more focused as we can all pull in one direction.
If you’re feeling stuck and have been dithering about whether to take the plunge or change direction in any aspect of your life (home, work, trying for a baby, joining a dating agency etc), I can highly recommend just going for it. The fact that you keep thinking about it is a sign that it matters to you and something needs to change. And I imagine very few people ever regret trying something new, compared to plenty who regret staying in the comfort zone. Just make sure you dream big! Pls Like / Share.
