Just after a stroppy exchange yesterday my son said ‘Shall we do some grounding and bring in fresh energy?’. This is what’s known as a ‘repair bid’. Regardless of the words, what he was ultimately saying was ‘Let’s get back on track’. It made me smile & it worked. Repair bids are wonderful things and can come in many forms – a hug, humour, an apology etc. Two key things with repair bids: 1. Make them! Nothing can be solved from a place of anger / upset. 2. Acknowledge them – an ignored repair bid can be more damaging than the original argument.
I wish you marvellous mending. ????
