I defrosted my freezer today. What’s that got to do with relationships you may ask? Well, quite a lot actually. Defrosting a freezer is not a pleasant job and hence I put it off for a long time, causing the ice to build up more. And this reminds me of when couples don’t deal with issues in their relationships because they don’t want the ‘heavy conversation’ or to ‘spoil the weekend / date night’. The issues get bigger and more entrenched, just as the ice got thicker, and they are then likely to take a lot more effort to sort out (that flipping freezer took 3 hours today!). But it is worth doing – the relationship can move on, stronger, more connected and the freezer drawers now open freely, ready to be refilled. So, you have a choice, in your relationships and with your freezer … little and often or a big hard slog.
