Laughter is the best medicine

Laughter really is the best medicine and when we can bring humour, lightness and fun into our relationships we all benefit.

I was reminded of this today when my son had somehow, in the way that only a 10 year old boy can, managed to miss his mouth with his porridge and tip it all over his newly washed sleeve instead. He didn’t realise I’d seen him and I watched as he surreptitiously attempted to clean it off, thus making far more mess, and then hide it under the counter. At that point he looked up and our eyes met.

As the sun was shining, I’d slept well & had a good day ahead, I met his eyes, watched it dawn on him that I’d seen it all, and I started laughing. At which point he burst out laughing too and what could have been an air of annoyance & criticism turned into one of connection and fun. And we BOTH benefitted from that.

Now I am not for one second saying that I would always react like that, after all, it’s not always sunny! However we all have zillions of these moments each day when we can bring in lightness, choose affectionate laughter & find the humour. And when we are able to do that, it helps to connect and strengthen our relationships with those around us. Work colleagues, kids, partners, bosses etc can all benefit when you set an intention to hold life lightly and find the fun in it. Pls like / share. Sue X
