When not to have the deep & meaningful chat

When you need to discuss something that is potentially controversial with your partner / child / boss etc there are good times to do it and not so good times. Today let’s do a quick reminder on the times to not start that conversation as we all so often forget:

1. When it’s too hot (like today funnily enough)

2. When either of you has been drinking more than a glass of wine

3. When either of you is very stressed about work, moving house or anything else

4. When either of you is very tired / hungover or ill

5. When in company

6. When the person you are attempting to have the conversation with has their attention elsewhere

7. When they are finally able to relax after a busy day / week and just want to chill out

8. When anyone is suffering with PMT / Periods / Pregnancy / Anything in the slightest bit hormonal in fact!

There are probably others but those all sprang to mind. As you can see, for the typical person with a busy job / young kids / financial worries / ageing parents / life change (delete as appropriate), it doesn’t leave a lot of prime controversial chat time. I would suggest in this case that you book it in. As odd as it might sound, let the other person know that you need to have a ‘proper chat’ and ask when would be a good time. And unless you are someone who loves being REALLY hot, today is probably not a good time! Pls Like / Share. Sue X
