Forget ‘Back to School’ or ‘Back to Work’ and instead let’s focus on ‘Back to Me’

September with its Autumnal energy can bring this sense of getting on with stuff but before we dive in, it’s worth just taking a pause.

Have a moment and check in with yourself. I encourage you to not just go back to the old routine before seeing if that is still working for you. Maybe it never did? Perhaps the priorities in your week were all wrong, suiting everyone else’s needs but not your own.

Summer has an expansive energy with long days, plenty going on etc. But now we are coming back to centre. You may have spent the summer treating your body like a Goddess Temple that houses you. If you did, well done, top marks for you!

I however went to Italy and ate delicious ice-cream every day. Then I went to Cornwall and was seduced by chips at the seaside more than once. And, even though I love it, I didn’t do much yoga, hardly any running and bugger all strength / stability work. I did pretty well on Mindfulness as we did a lot of walking in beautiful places but actual sitting and Meditating was a tad lacking.

Here’s a mini checklist for you if you’d like to think about coming back to yourself:

1. What types of exercise do I need to focus on? Looking at the 4 areas of fitness, flexibility, stability and strength.

2. What does my body need in terms of fuel in this season. In traditional Chinese Medicine we are in the season of Late Summer. A time for preparation for the coming months to create comfort & balance. Think about your diet incorporating the foods that are in season now such as orange, yellow & golden foods that are naturally sweet eg Butternut squash, Peaches, Apricots, Carrots etc. It’s a good time to wean yourself off of sugar.

3. What would help to bring me back to sense of centre & how can I fit that Into my routine? It might be mindful walking in Nature, a meditation practice, Tai Chi, Yoga etc. Where will you find your balance?

4. What can I do to enjoy my life more? Perhaps you’ve been neglecting a hobby that you love or want to find a new one.

5. Who do I want to hang out with more? Focus on the relationships that make you feel good. Just a few options for you to consider if you’d like to. When we look after ourselves, we have a lot more capacity & energy to look after other people too.

Please like / comment / share if you found this useful & hopefully others will take a moment to give their life a little upgrade. Sue X
