Today is Christmas tip number 2 which is to make sure you look after yourself. I realise that seems a little against the grain for the season of giving and goodwill so let me explain.
Too often lovely, kind, generous people (I am far too selfish to consider myself in this category) put huge effort into making everyone else happy or the day being perfect. It might be ‘all about the kids’ with vast quantities of presents. Or it could be keeping Great Auntie Agatha happy with her many demands. Or it could just be wanting everything to be perfect for all the guests. All very lovely intentions but it can end up with you feeling absolutely exhausted or stressed or ratty. And, trust me on this one, your nearest and dearest would rather have you well rested and in a good mood! Paragraph
Instead think about what you personally need and build that into the Christmas period. You might just need a rest (so the tip from the other day to keep it simple could help). You might need to get out of the house – absolutely fine, just let people know you need a walk and off you go. You might need a nap – lovely, take yourself off and have one. Everyone will cope without you but if you don’t ask for what you need, they can’t know. You might need to drink lots of Gin ????. Whatever your needs are, have a think and see how you can get them met.
After all Christmas is for everyone, and that most definitely includes you, dear reader. A happy host, hostess, parent, partner, guest etc is definitely the best one. And if your partner is the one that does everything for everyone, how about asking them what they need? Please like / share. Sue X
